Police appeal for witnesses after man dies in Solihull collision

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a man died in a collision in Solihull yesterday (28/01/16).

The 48-year-old was hit by a white van just before 2pm on Fillongley Road in Meriden, near to Lodge Green Lane.

Despite the best efforts of medical staff he died at the scene.

The road remained closed for several hours while emergency services and collision investigators worked to clear the area and carry out enquiries.

Sergeant Adam Green, from the force’s Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This is a busy road and it is believed that there would have been several people around at the time.

“It is essential that we piece together exactly what happened and I am keen to hear from anyone who can help us build a clear picture of the collision.

“Whilst people may not have seen the collision itself I would also like to hear from anyone who may have seen two people jogging in the area beforehand.

“Sadly a man has lost his life and our thoughts are with his family at the present time, who have been informed and are being supported by officers from the force’s Family Liaison Unit.”

The 55-year-old driver of the van was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in police custody while enquiries continue.

WMP collision investigators can be contacted on 101.
