Woman climbed onto roof with child in Balsall Common

Police are trying to talk a woman down after she climbed onto the roof of a house with her child in Balsall Common.

Police, ambulance and fire crews are at the scene and have all been trying to talk the woman down from the roof this morning (Monday 27th June), negotiations are continuing.

The A452 Kenilworth Road was closed between Alder Lane and Meer End Road at around 7am due to “an ongoing police incident” – emergency services were called at 4am to reports that a woman had climbed onto the roof of her home with her child and is refusing to come down.

It is not yet clear how old the child is, or if either are injured.

Officers are urging drivers to avoid the area as work to bring the mother and child to safety continue.

Traffic is already building up around the area, with queues likely to continue through the morning.

A spokesperson for Solihull Police said: “The A452 Kenilworth Road is currently closed between Alder Lane and Meer End Road due to an ongoing police incident. Avoid the area.”

* UPDATE 27/06/16 – 5:15pm: A woman and child were safely removed from the roof of a property in Balsall Common earlier today following a joint effort by police, fire and ambulance services.
