Man attacked with machete during daytime clash in Castle Bromwich

A man was viciously attacked with a machete during a daytime clash on a quiet residential street.

The 20-year-old victim suffered a serious hand injury in the attack in Castle Bromwich on Tuesday (11th April).

Armed police descended on Kennet Grove after witnesses reported the bloody assault, shortly after 5.30pm.

Horrified residents said officers swarmed the area in the moments after the disorder and nearby roads were sealed off.

An air ambulance, which landed at Smiths Wood Community Primary School, flew the injured victim to hospital.

West Midlands Police said a 56-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.

A resident, who asked not to be named, said: “The first we knew of anything happening was when we heard the air ambulance coming in to land. Three medics got out and were gone around half an hour.

“A number of police cars and a van then raced past us.

“It’s usually a fairly quiet area, just a lot of young kids out playing on their bikes.”

West Midlands Ambulance Service said they were called to the scene shortly after 5.30pm.

An ambulance, a paramedic support officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance with a trauma doctor on board attended.

They confirmed the victim had suffered serious injuries and was given trauma care at the scene before being taken to hospital.

A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said: “Police are appealing for witnesses after a man suffered a serious hand injury during a disorder in Castle Bromwich yesterday.
