Pensioner attacked and robbed in own home by three masked men

A family have been left ‘heartbroken’ after three masked men broke into their grandfather’s home in the middle of the night, then assaulted and robbed him in a terrifying attack.

Gerry Fealy was asleep in his Smith’s Wood home when three men smashed through the patio doors with a boulder and ransacked the property at around 2am on Sunday.

His family say the three men then burst into the 89-year-old’s bedroom and held a pillow over his face as they demanded money.

They then fled with his watch, some cash, and Mr Fealy’s wife’s jewellery who had previously passed away.

“The men came over the back fence and smashed through the double-glazed doors with a boulder,” said Carmel Fealy, who is married to Gerry’s grandson Alex.

“They had already tried the back door with a crow bar.

“He didn’t hear them as he is deaf and he didn’t have his hearing aids in.

“They came into the house and ransacked downstairs.

“They have then gone into his bedroom and, as he tried to sit up, they pushed him back onto the bed and pulled a pillow over his head.

“They were shouting at him to ‘where’s the money?’

“He felt himself choking. They ripped the necklace he was wearing from his chest and took his watch off him.

“One of them picked up one of his ornaments and went to bash him on the head, but they didn’t.

“He told them that he was a 90-year-old man, and then they left.

“That’s when he called the police.”

Fortunately Gerry was left physically unharmed, but has been badly shaken.

Now, police are appealing for any witnesses to the incident as they hunt down the attackers.

Carmel added: “He’s ok, but just a bit nervous.

“It just highlights what a horrible world we live in.

“We actually feel very lucky as it could have been a very different phone call.”

Anyone with information about the attack can contact West Midlands Police on 101.
