Recovery driver attacked with baseball bat and Ferrari torched in Meriden arson attack

A recovery driver was viciously attacked and a Ferrari set on fire after the luxury car broke down on Maxstoke Lane in Meriden.

‘A number’ of motorists are thought to have driven past as the horror attack unfolded on Sunday 1st December.

At around 4.15pm, the red sports car broke down and recovery was arranged.

As the recovery driver went to leave the scene at 5.45pm, he was set upon by a gang in dark clothing.

He was assaulted with, police believe, a baseball bat – leaving him with injuries to his stomach that required hospital treatment.

The car was then set on fire – leaving it seriously damaged.

Now detectives have appealed for help to trace those involved in the ‘concerning incident’.

Investigating officer, Det Con Karl Roberts said: “This is a concerning incident, which has left a man assaulted for simply doing his job.

“We believe a number of cars drove past the location during this time, and we’d like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the offence or any suspicious behaviour to please come forward.

“If you have any information, please call Warwickshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 357 of 1 December 2019.”

If you want to remain anonymous, information can also be passed on to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their website.
