Police appeal after man killed and child hurt in Solihull crash

Police continue to appeal for information after a man lost his life in a Solihull collision yesterday (17th August).

Emergency services were called to Bills Lane, Shirley, after a Vauxhall Astra and a Range Rover were in collision at the junction with Langcomb Road at around 2.35pm.

A nine-year-old child and a 59-year-old man from the Vauxhall Astra were treated by paramedics for serious injuries.

Despite the best efforts of medical staff the man unfortunately died at the scene. The child was taken to hospital where he is being treated for serious injuries.

A 19-year-old man was arrested from the Range Rover on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and was later bailed by police pending further enquiries.

Sergeant Tim Rogers, from the force’s collision investigation unit, said: “We are eager to speak to anyone who may have seen the collision or who saw the vehicles travelling in the area of Bills Lane shortly before the crash.

“Specialist officers have been appointed to liaise with the family of the man who died and as we continue to investigate the circumstances which led to the collision and our thoughts are with the family at this sad time.”
