Knowle and Dorridge Lions raise £12k towards the vision care for homeless people

Knowle and Dorridge Lions have raised £12,000 to improve vision care for homeless people.

The Lions’ support has helped to meet the running costs of the clinic for Vision Care for Homeless People (VCHP).

The clinic is supported by volunteer optometrists and dispensing opticians and provides eye examinations and glasses for the homeless and dispossessed in the area.

The funding was made possible after Knowle and Dorridge Lions member Ralph Lilley volunteered at the eye centre with his wife Margaret.

Barry Dale, president of the Knowle and Dorridge Lions, said: “Each year we nominate three charities to be beneficiaries from our Lions festive walk, Knowle Fun Run and Easter egg raffles. Vision Care had a head start because not only had one of our Lions nominated them but, most importantly, because Lions Clubs International are known as Knights of the Blind.”

Willing volunteers and generous charitable supporters enable VCHP to run eye clinics in the Midlands, Manchester, Brighton and London.
