19-year-old man charged over fatal Shirley collision

A 19-year-old man has been charged with causing the death of a man and seriously injuring his grandson in a collision in Shirley.

Kirpal Sokhi, of Tetley Road, Hall Green is accused of causing the death of 59-year-old Stephen Beckett by dangerous driving. He is also charged with causing serious injury to Mr Beckett’s 9-year-old grandson by driving dangerously and using a vehicle without insurance.

He is accused of being the driver of a £105,000 Range Rover when it was in collision with a Vauxhall Astra van on Bills Lane, Shirley, at approximately 2:30pm on 17th August 2014.

He is due to appear before Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on 21st November 2014.

Mr Beckett’s family have been informed and have asked that their privacy is respected at this difficult time.
