Double-crewed ambulances are back

West Midlands Ambulance Service and Heart of England Foundation Trust have agreed costs to base Double-Crewed Ambulances in Solihull Hospital.

After several months of negotiations the Chief Executive of West Midlands Ambulance Service wrote to local MP Lorely Burt to confirm that a financial agreement had been reached at a ‘revised cost’.

Bosses expect work installing doctors’ quarters to take place over the next four weeks followed by the installation of computers, lockers and other equipment.

The plans are on schedule for delivery by the end of August as planned.

Initially two ambulances will operate from the Solihull Hospital site.

This number is intended to rise to three.

Solihull MP Lorely Burt, who has been campaigning for Double-Crewed Ambulances to be returned to Solihull since they were removed last year, said, “I have said from the start that Solihull needs and deserves Double-Crewed Ambulances permanently based here.

“I am very pleased that after a long campaign the end seems to be in sight.

“These negotiations have not been easy and I congratulate the ambulance service and the foundation trust for securing this agreement.

“I look forward to visiting the new ambulance station when it opens – as an observer.”
