All children in Solihull offered a secondary school place

Solihull Council has announced that all parents with children living in Solihull have been offered a place for them at secondary school in September 2016.

91% have been offered their first or second preference – and around 97% have been offered one of their five preference schools.

Councillor Joe Tildesley, Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Culture, said: “In Solihull we recognise the importance of a good education to improve children’s life chances, which is why we have invested in education and schools to ensure all children living in Solihull are offered a place at secondary school.

“We are extremely proud of this position and we will continue to work hard and improve our schools for future generations.”

Solihull Council received a total of 4,598 applications for children starting secondary school in September 2016 – 2,487 of these were from parents of children living in Solihull. The remaining applications were from parents of children living in neighbouring authorities, mainly Birmingham.

In a small number of cases none of the parent’s school preferences could be met, this is because the applications were either late or they did not include the catchment school as one of their preferences. Each of these children will be offered a school place in the school closest to their home address that has a vacancy.
