Bentley Heath Recreation Ground honoured with Green Flag Award

For the 15th year running, a Solihull landmark has been recognised as one of the best quality green spaces in the country, taking the total number of green flags in the borough to fifteen.

Bentley Heath Recreation Ground will now be proudly flying the flag after receiving a Green Flag Award from Keep Britain Tidy – an accolade which is nationally regarded as the Gold Standard for public spaces in the UK.

Councillor Robert Hulland, Cabinet Member for Environment, Housing and Regeneration, said: “I am delighted that Bentley Heath Recreation Ground has been honoured with its own Green Flag.

“This is the 15th year the Council has been involved in this worthwhile scheme, so it’s fantastic that we are now celebrating our 15th Green Flag Award.

“Our staff work incredibly hard to make Solihull’s parks and open spaces welcoming, safe and well-maintained for residents, and being recognised on an international level is a great achievement and one we are extremely proud of.”

Green Flag Awards can be presented to any green space that is accessible to the public, for example parks, cemeteries, universities and community gardens.

They are judged against strict criteria including horticultural standards, sustainability, cleanliness and community involvement.

International Green Flag Award scheme manager, Paul Todd, said: “We are delighted to be celebrating another record-breaking year for the Green Flag Award scheme.

“Each flag is a celebration of the thousands of staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to maintain the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award.

“The success of the scheme, especially in these challenging times, demonstrates just how much parks matter to people.”
