Body found near Aldi store in Shirley

A man has been found dead near the Aldi supermarket in Shirley.

Police were called to the scene, off Stratford Road, on Monday afternoon. Witnesses said West Midlands Ambulance Service crews also attended.

The spot was also close to Shirley Park.

West Midlands Police said the body of a 47-year-old man was discovered in Shirley. They are not treating the death as suspicious.

A statement from the force read: “Police were called to a supermarket car park on Stratford Road, Shirley, following the discovery of a man’s body just after 3pm yesterday (28 January).

“The death of the 47-year-old man is not being treated as suspicious and the coroner has been informed.”

West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called to reports of a cardiac arrest at the rear of Aldi in Stratford Road, Shirley, at around 3.15pm yesterday afternoon.

“An ambulance and a paramedic officer responded to the scene. Sadly, it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead on scene.”
