Extra police patrols after attempted rape of 11-year-old girl

Police are continuing to investigate the attempted rape of an 11-year-old girl in a Solihull park, as officers maintain high-visibility patrols in the area this weekend.

Statement from Solihull Police: “A dedicated team of detectives has been analysing hours of CCTV, while others are carrying out house-to-house enquiries and speaking to people in the area.

“People enjoying the weekend sun can expect to see extra officers out and about in Solihull this weekend and are encouraged to chat to them to raise any concerns or pass on information that might help with the investigation.

“The young victim was attacked one week ago today, on June 29, at around 2.50pm. She was walking through Babbs Mill Park on her way home from school when a man knocked her to the ground.

“She suffered a cut to the neck from a knife and was treated in hospital. She’s since been discharged and is being supported by specially trained officers.

“The offender escaped after the assault, which happened at some time between 2.30pm and 2.50pm, and enquiries are underway to try to identify him.

“He’s described as white, slightly tanned, with short brown/greying hair. He has blue eyes, large hands and a muscular, stocky build.

“The man was with a white King Charles spaniel, which had light brown patches on its ears and body. The dog had a red collar and red extendable lead.”

Chief Insp Colin Barnes, of Solihull Police, said: “We’re using all our expertise and resources to bring the attacker to justice.

“Our officers will be patrolling throughout the weekend and into next week as part of our commitment to providing a highly-visible policing presence in the town.”

Detectives continue to appeal for information and anyone with information has been asked to contact officers on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
