Minutes later, the black Audi – which was also stolen – was tracked to the M6 where it failed to stop for police.

The offenders repeatedly rammed the police car as they tried to evade capture.

Officers managed to block the path of the Audi as it was drove the wrong way down the northbound carriageway of the M6 at junction five (Castle Bromwich).

The car-jacker eventually gave up on the chase and left the vehicle on the motorway before making off on foot over the Collector Road.

The red Ferrari was found abandoned a short while later off Garretts Green Lane.

Miraculously, no one was hurt during the dramatic chase.

Police have confirmed the Audi was stolen in a car key burglary in Dorridge on Friday. Forensics experts are examining both the vehicles and CCTV for evidence.

The incident sparked traffic delays on the M6. Two lanes were blocked on the northbound side at junction five but were reopened around 5.30pm.
