Fundraiser for tragic Chelmsley Wood crash victim Ross Williams smashes £4,000 target

An online fundraising page set up to help pay funeral costs for tragic Chelmsley Wood crash victim Ross Williams has smashed its target.

Friends of the Solihull Council worker set up the fundraising page on JustGiving and set a £4,000 target.

The amount stood at £4,977 on Wednesday 30 January.

Mr Williams, aged 37, died at the scene of a the three-car collision, on the A452 Collector Road on the morning of 11 January.

He worked as an Education Health and Care Plan Co-ordinator helping children with special needs. He was on his way to work when the collision happened at around 8.25am.

Bianca Sankey, who set up the page posted: “We are setting this up in memory of our dear friend and colleague, Ross Williams.

“He was tragically killed in a road traffic accident on his way to work on the morning of Friday 11th January 2019.

“Ross worked as an Education Health and Care plan co-ordinator in the 0-25 Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Service for Solihull Council and he loved this job.

“He helped and changed the lives of so many children and families in Soilhull and had such a kind heart and compassionate nature.

“He always went above and beyond to help and nothing was ever too much trouble. He celebrated every success and lived his life to the full. He will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.”

Mr Williams was driving a Peugeot 207. The two other cars involved were a black Golf GT TDI and orange Fiesta ST.

Two men, aged 42 and 25, were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. They were later released pending further enquiries.

In a statement released by West Midlands Police, Ross’s family said: “Ross was tragically killed in a traffic collision on 11 January.

“He was an adored son, brother, uncle, brother-in-law and nephew. He was a friend to so many and will be missed forever.”

Sgt Paul Hughes, from the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “A man has tragically lost his life and we will be doing everything we can to support his family at such a devastating time.

“We need to establish what led to this collision and we are urging anybody who was in the area at the time to come forward.

“We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who saw an orange Fiesta ST and black Golf GT TDI before the collision or has dash cam footage which could assist our enquiries.”
