Local pupil steps up to win escalator safety competition

A pupil from St Anne’s Primary School in Chelmsley Wood has stepped up to the challenge and been crowned the winner of Touchwood’s Escalator Safety Competition.

Lilymai O’Neil, aged 11, channelled her inner creativity and produced an engaging and imaginative poster that illustrates Touchwood’s ‘Steps to Safety’ messages.

The competition was judged by representatives from around the local community, including Andy Jeynes, community response manager for West Midlands Ambulance, Terry Flower from the First Aid Charity and representatives of the Touchwood team.

After receiving 200 incredible entries, the judges concluded that Lilymai’s poster demonstrated innovation as well as a thoughtful design, naming her as the competition’s winner.

Lilymai’s inspiring poster is not only hosted and displayed around the escalators within the centre, but she has also received a £500 contribution towards her school, St Anne’s Primary.

The runners up and highly commended pupils are: Hannah Kirkham, Lilly-Mae Hill, Imaan Ali (Coppice Junior School), Grace Flaherty, Fiona Privin (St Anne’s Primary School), Mcrae Nicholson, Lucy Soady, Anton Maiburau (Yew Tree Primary School) Kiera Devine and Mia Spencer (Damson Junior School) – they will also have their posters on display alongside escalators within the centre.
