Local schools receive Modeshift STARS awards

More than 20 schools across Solihull have come together at an awards event held at Solihull Council’s Civic Suite.

Modeshift STARS (School Travel Accreditation and Recognition for Schools), is a national awards scheme that rewards schools’ efforts for their commitment and dedication to reducing school run congestion and keeping their children fit and healthy.

A total of 22 local schools received awards this year, including Yew Tree Primary School and St Anne’s Catholic Primary School who both received gold awards.

The event was a great opportunity for pupils and teachers to network and learn more about what they can do to make a positive impact on the environment.

Following the awards presentation The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Mike Robinson, said: “This event is a great way to reward local schools who are committed to producing environmentally friendly travel.

“It’s important that these children continue to support sustainable travel and understand the benefits that it brings to our environment.

“I am delighted that we have so many of our schools taking part they have all shown a commitment to the project and they should be exceptionally proud of what has been achieved.

“I look forward to more of our schools taking part in the future.”
