Man charged with murder of Callum Lees

A man has been charged with the murder of Callum Lees, who died from a stab wound to his neck on the morning of Sunday 6th August in Kingshurst.

Callum (pictured) was stabbed at a house party in Hopwas Grove and found collapsed in nearby Haselour Road by a member of the public.

He died a short time later in hospital.

James Atherley, aged 21 of no fixed address, will appear before Birmingham magistrates tomorrow (Saturday 2nd September) following his arrest in Newcastle-upon-Tyne on Wednesday.

Three people arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender − a woman, aged 48, and two 19-year-old men − have been released on police bail while enquiries continue.

Callum’s family have been informed of the latest developments and continue to be supported by specialist officers.

Detectives are still appealing for anyone else who was in the flat in Hopwas Grove on that morning to come forward. Please contact DI Munro’s team on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
