Man dies in car blaze near Solihull golf club

The body of a man was found inside a burning car near a Solihull golf course on Boxing Day.

Fire and ambulance crews made the grim discovery near the North Warwickshire Golf Club on Hampton Lane in Meriden.

An air ambulance crew was also sent to the scene – but nothing could be done to save the man whose body was recovered from the burning wreckage of the vehicle.

Police are investigating but the death does not appear to be suspicious.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a car fire shortly before 2.45pm on the 26th.

“The body of a man was recovered from the car but the death is not believed to be suspicious.

“We would be referring the death to the coroner.”

The man has not yet been named.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a car that was on fire with a patient inside.

“We sent a rapid response paramedic and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance.

“The patient inside the car was a man and unfortunately it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed deceased at the scene.”

Crews from Canley and Bickenhall fire stations attended the incident.
