Man who died in Meriden collision has been named

A man who died in a collision in Meriden has been named as David Wood from Bromsgrove.

The 48-year-old was hit by a white van on Fillongley Road yesterday (Thursday 28th January) while out running just before 2pm.

Despite the best efforts of medical staff he died at the scene.

David’s wife, Hayley has spoken of her loss. She said: “David was a keen tri-athlete and enjoyed keeping fit.

“He was a loving father, grandfather, son, brother, friend and husband and we will miss him dearly.

“We would also like to pass on our thanks to everyone that stopped and offered help at the scene of the collision.”

Collision investigators are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Sergeant Adam Green, from the force’s Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This is a busy road and it is believed that there would have been several people around at the time.

“It is essential that we piece together exactly what happened and I am keen to hear from anyone who can help us build a clear picture of the collision.

“Whilst people may not have seen the collision itself I would also like to hear from anyone who may have seen two people jogging in the area beforehand.

“Sadly a man has lost his life and our thoughts are with his family at the present time.”

The road remained closed for several hours while emergency services and collision investigators worked to clear the area and carry out enquiries.

The 55-year-old driver of the van was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in police custody while enquiries continue.

WMP collision investigators can be contacted on 101.
