New Mayor of Solihull

Councillor Mrs Kate Wild was confirmed as the new and 61st Mayor of Solihull at the Annual Council meeting on Tuesday 10th June.

Elected to Solihull Council in 1994 Councillor Wild has represented the St Alphege Ward and has been Cabinet Member for Community Services and the Environment.

Councillor Wild was also Mayor of Solihull from 2002 – 2003.

The Mayor’s husband Jim will join Councillor Wild as the Mayor’s Consort. Jim was elected to Solihull Council in 2000 and has represented Elmdon Ward. As an Environmental Consultant he worked on projects in Italy, Saudi Arabia, Mauritius, India, Korea and Chile.

The new Mayor succeeds Councillor Joe Tildesley and his wife Joan, who will become the new Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayoress.

Of her appointment, the new Mayor declared: “It is a great privilege to be appointed the Mayor of Solihull. The theme for this year will be ‘Celebrating Solihull’ and it’s an honour to be able to meet the people who make up our amazing borough.

“I would like to meet as many groups as I can such as the Round Table, Rotary, Lions, Friends of Solihull Hospital and smaller groups such as the Scouts and Guides. I am also keen to meet with people who work tirelessly to make our borough what it is and as a former teacher I look forward to meeting with schools and seeing their good work.”

The opening of the new Shirley Library will be the Mayor’s first official engagement today, Wednesday 11th June.

The Mayoral Charity Fund will continue to support Solihull local charities.
