Solihull Council has bid for and received additional funding for flood damaged roads

The Council has been awarded £723,000 to repair 8.5 miles of damaged roads in the borough in a mix of urban and rural locations. Repairs will be carried out early this year.

The funds are part of a £140m government initiative set aside to help local authorities cope with the damage to their roads following the extraordinarily wet weather.

A total of 11 roads will have some form of resurfacing to help restore them to a sound condition thanks to the additional funding.

The funding is in on top of the £2.6m funding already identified by the Council for 2014 for road maintenance and will be used at the following locations:

Kenilworth Road – Balsall Common, A45 Coventry Road, A452 Collector Road, Birmingham Road, Blackford Road, Bradford Road, Catherine-de-Barnes, Cornets End, Green Lane – Castle Bromwich, Hampton Lane, Old Croft Lane, Olton Road, Spring Lane, Stratford Road and Warwick Road.

Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways, Councillor Ted Richards OBE said: “The constant rainfall has caused severe damage to our roads creating pot holes and causing older roads to wear away and break up earlier.

“The additional funding to repair these roads is welcome news and coupled with the funding that the Council has put aside will go a long way to enabling residents to enjoy safer and smoother journeys.

“We will carry out the works in the most efficient way possible so as to cause the least disruption to residents.”
