Solihull Mayor flies flag for the forces

On Monday 20th June, the Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Mike Robinson, flew the Armed Forces Flag to show the borough’s support for Armed Forces Day – which took place on Saturday 25th June.

The Mayor raised the flag in a ceremony at the Solihull Royal British Legion, alongside Jeff Stocks, the Club Chairman and Ken Russell the Branch Chairman.

Among those attending were members of the Royal British Legion and branches of the Armed Forces, as well as Caroline Spelman MP and Solihull Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Alex Murray.

Armed Forces Day raises awareness of the contribution made by our country’s servicemen and women who serve the country in the Army, Navy and Air Force. It is also an opportunity to show support for the men and women in the Armed Forces community.

The Mayor said: “Throughout history the brave men and women of our armed forces have put themselves at risk to defend the rights and privileges of this nation. It is no different today, the modern soldier is just as committed, just as dedicated and just as prepared to serve this country.

“We owe a great debt of gratitude to all those men and women, past and present serving in our armed forces.

“For me it is a privilege and honour to share the raising of the Armed Forces Flag.”

Ken Russell, Branch Chairman of the Solihull Royal British Legion said: “The Royal British Legion feels honoured to have this opportunity to show our support for our gallant forces personnel who put their lives on the line for their country.

“This is just a small token of our appreciation.”
