Solihull Mayor meets recipients of Queen’s Honours

On Tuesday 17th April, The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Stuart Davis, welcomed recipients of the Queen’s Honours in the Solihull Council Civic Suite.

In recognition of their recently received honours, Charlie Fogarty MBE, Ian Carnell MBE and Andrew Ready MBE were all invited for tea with the Mayor to celebrate their achievements.

The Mayor said: “It was a pleasure to meet Charlie, Ian and Andrew and learn more about their inspirational work in Solihull and beyond.

“Their contribution to the local and wider community is immeasurable and I am delighted that their efforts to make our borough happier, healthier and more prosperous have been formally recognised by Her Majesty.”

* Charlie Fogarty received his MBE for services to young people. After a life-changing accident, Charlie set up the open age disability football team at Solihull Moors where he is player-manager.

He has represented the Northern Ireland Cerebral Palsy football team at two World Cups and also gives motivational speeches to groups across the Midlands.

Charlie was a runner-up in the Pride of Britain awards in 2014 and won the Inspirational Young Person’s Award 2015 in Solihull’s Civic Honours.

* Ian Carnell received his MBE for services to young people. Ian is a retired head teacher who has given over 48 years of service to education, the Scouting Movement and EducAid Africa, a charity based in Mombasa, Kenya.

He is active in the community and is on the governing board of several schools in the borough.

In 1996, he received the Silver Wolf medal – the highest award available from the Scout Association.

* Andrew Ready received his MBE for services to renal transplantation. Andrew is one of Britain’s leading transplant surgeons and performed the first ever organ transplant in Ghana.

He is the medical director of the international charity Transplant Links which carries out vital operations and shares expertise with local surgeons. He has led transplant teams on numerous missions to the developing world, including Trinidad, Nigeria, Nepal and Kenya.
