Solihull parks among best in country

Solihull has received 15 Green Flag Awards for its parks and green spaces across the borough for the second consecutive year.

The 15 sites are among a record-breaking 1,883 UK parks and green spaces that received one of the prestigious awards this year from Keep Britain Tidy.

The scheme, now into its 22nd year, recognises and rewards well managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of recreational outdoor spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.

Councillor Joe Tildesley, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Tourism and Sport, said: “I’m delighted that our parks and green spaces have received 15 Green Flag Awards for the second year in a row.

“I know how important high quality green areas are to residents and visitors; these awards recognise and celebrate the dedication that goes into maintaining our parks and open spaces for all to enjoy.

“A big thank you must also to all the residents, community groups, local businesses and council staff who have all worked hard to earn these awards.”

The 15 parks that received an award are:

– Brueton and Malvern Park

– Tudor Grange Park

– Shirley Park

– Palmers Rough Local Nature Reserve / Jacey Park, Shirley

– Elmdon Park

– Hillfield Park and Local Nature Reserve, Monkspath

– Olton Jubilee Park, Lyndon

– Knowle Park

– Bentley Heath Park

– Dorridge Park

– Lavender Hall Park, Balsall Common

– Meriden Park, Chelmsley Wood

– Babbs Mill Park, Kingshurst

– Robin Hood Cemetery

– Woodlands Cemetery
