Solihull pupils congratulated through education awards

The JLR Solihull Borough Education Awards were held on Tuesday 16th October in the Council Chamber of the Civic Suite.

In conjunction with this year’s Civic Honours ceremony, six hard-working pupils from Solihull’s schools were presented with awards sponsored by the JLR Group.

The Solihull Borough Education Awards are an initiative, sponsored by Jaguar Land Rover, whereby GCSE students are rewarded for showing outstanding dedication in their studies.

The quality of students was of such a high standard that there were joint winners for one of the awards.

The winners were handpicked from a long list of nominations by a selection panel of councillors, colleagues from Jaguar Land Rover, a head teacher representative and Council officers.

The winners, who were presented with certificates and individual prizes, are:

Ericka Dela Cruz – Outstanding Maths student: John Henry Newman Catholic College

Gracie Kerr – Most Improved Maths student: Grace Academy

Alice Sherrington – Outstanding English student: Alderbrook School

Daniel Anderson – Most Improved Maths student: Langley School

Samuel Miners – Most Improved English student: Arden School

Brandon Collins – Outstanding Improvement: Merstone School

Councillor Ken Meeson, Cabinet Member for Children, Education and Skills, said: “The selection of this year’s JLR Education Award winners proved as difficult as ever. The judging panel was again hugely impressed with the number of outstanding nominations and the winners can take great pride in being chosen from such a strong field.

“I am very grateful to JLR for continuing to sponsor these prestigious awards and thank all the secondary schools in Solihull for identifying their outstanding and most improved pupils, compiling accounts of their achievements and continuing to support the Education Awards so enthusiastically.”
