Solihull shows its Paralympic spirit at Tudor Grange Leisure Centre

On Wednesday 28th September, people from across the borough took part in the Solihull Gets Active games which were opened by Mayor of Solihull Councillor Mike Robinson at Tudor Grange Leisure Centre.

The event saw 91 people living with disabilities have a go at a variety of activities – including tennis, boxing, archery and cycling.

The aim of the event is to promote active lifestyles for adults with disabilities by introducing people to sports and activities available in Solihull.

Visitors enjoyed dance performances by Learning Curves and Bhangra Burnoff as part of the opening ceremony, in addition to a speech by the Mayor.

The day was organised by Solihull Active in partnership with local day centres, Parkwood Community Leisure, Bromford Housing, Solihull Community Housing and brain injury charity Headway as well as other disability organisations.

The Mayor said: “It was fantastic to meet with so many people who were enjoying a variety of activities, some of which they hadn’t tried before.

“This event and many others organised by Solihull Active offer great opportunities for people living with disabilities to enjoy active lifestyles.

“I would urge anybody living with a disability, or their carers and relatives, to get involved.”
