Solihull welcomes new Mayor

Councillor Glenis Slater was invested as the new and 62nd Mayor of Solihull at the Annual Council meeting yesterday (19th May).

Councillor Slater was born and raised in Olton, where she attended local schools. She has represented Elmdon ward for seven years and has served on the Planning Committee for six years. She has also been a school governor at Chapel Fields School.

A member of Olton Creative Writing Group, Councillor Slater enjoys writing short stories and poetry. She is also a keen reader and rambler. She met her husband Clive at the age of 17 and married him four years later in 1967. The couple have four children and nine grandchildren.

Mr Clive Slater, the Mayor’s husband, will join her as the Mayor’s Consort. Clive was born in Birmingham and moved to Solihull after marrying. He obtained a Bachelor’s Honour degree in Business from the University of Bristol and worked as a Business Manager for BP Oil for many years. He is now retired and enjoys walking, yoga, DIY, and the study of different religions.

The new Mayor succeeds Councillor Mrs Kate Wild and her husband Mr Jim Wild, who will become the new Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor’s Consort.

On her appointment, the new Mayor said: “It is a great honour to have been invested as Mayor of Solihull. I was born here and I grew up here; I am very much looking forward to serving our wonderful borough as Mayor for the coming year.”

The Mayor invites any organisations or individuals planning an event, who would like the support of the Mayor to email mayor@solihull.gov.uk. During her time as Mayor, Councillor Slater intends to support local charities.
