Sponsored cycle raises funds for Solihull Wheels For All

On Monday 19th September people from across the borough cycled a combined 146.5 miles – the length of over five and a half Olympic marathons – to raise funds for Solihull Wheels For All.

An initiative run by Solihull Active in partnership with Cycling Projects, Solihull Wheels For All provide accessible cycling to individuals, groups and families for ages 11 years and upwards.

Funds raised will go towards new equipment including tricycles, helmets and adaptive bikes for inclusive sessions.

The current total raised is £2,588 and donations are still being made.

Shirley Lions kindly donated £1,200 towards a recumbent bike at the event – this places cyclists in a laid back reclining position.

People who use the service, volunteers and carers were among those taking part in the sponsored cycle.

The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Mike Robinson, attended the event and cheered on cyclists as they completed their laps.

He said: “It was great to see so many people taking part to raise money for this worthy cause.

“After meeting some of the people who use the service, it is clear to me how much joy cycling brings them and I would encourage anyone who can to donate.”
