Thief steals defrosting car with child inside from Solihull driveway

A car was stolen from a driveway with a child inside as it was defrosting in Solihull.

West Midlands Police issued the warning after the motor was taken on Tuesday 19 November.

The thief – who is now being sought by police – dumped the vehicle shortly after spotting the child sitting in the back seat.

The youngster was found safe and sound inside and was later reunited with the parent, a spokesman for the force revealed.

Officers warned motorists to NEVER leave their car unattended while the engine was running.

They said: “Today saw the first really icy morning of the winter, and with it came the inevitable theft of cars that were being de-frosted while the drivers went back inside the house. One even had a child in the back. Fortunately as soon as the thief realised this he abandoned the vehicle and the child was safe.

“Never leave your vehicle unattended with the engine running for any reason. If you do, you run the risk of it being stolen and your insurance won’t be valid. Always be alert to your surroundings and anyone who may be in the area.”
