Man charged with murder after Solihull hit and run

Detectives investigating the death of a pedestrian following a hit and run in Solihull have charged a man with murder.

Steven Day (pictured) was hit by a VW Golf on Warwick Road in Olton on 16 July last year. The 46-year-old was confirmed dead at the scene.

A 39-year-old old man was arrested on suspicion of murder earlier this year and bailed while enquiries continued.

Detectives have now charged David Humfrey, of Lower Moor, Bournville, over the death of Mr Day and he appeared before Birmingham Magistrates Court today (19 September). He was remanded in custody to appear at Birmingham Crown Court on Monday 23 September.

Detective Inspector Stuart Mobberley, from the force’s homicide team, said: “This is a significant step forward in this long-running investigation.

“However, enquiries continue and we are still keen to speak to anyone who may have information which can assist us.”

Anyone with information is urged to call WMP on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
