Large tree branch crashes onto car in Solihull – driver avoids serious injury

A driver was lucky to escape serious injury after a large branch came crashing down on their car in Solihull.

The car was travelling down Silhill Hall Road just before 2pm on Tuesday (12th July), when the branch from an oak tree smashed onto the car and broke off into pieces.

Eight firefighters from Solihull Station’s Red Watch team were called and helped to clear the scene.

A West Midlands Fire Service spokeswoman said: “The driver self extricated prior to our arrival and received a precautionary check up by the ambulance service.

“We requested a council tree surgeon who confirmed there was no immediate risk to persons in the surrounding properties from the remaining tree.”

Solihull Fire tweeted: “Quick braking saved this driver serious injury, always be aware of your surroundings at the wheel.”

It is unclear if the tree was on private or public land. The road was reopened at 3.30pm.

A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said: “We were called at around 2pm today to Silhill Hall Road. A tree fell into the road and hit a car.

“No injuries were reported and officers were in attendance to help with traffic duties.”
