Solihull teenager drowns in tragic Turkey holiday swimming accident

A teenager from Solihull has died in Turkey whilst swimming on holiday with friends.

Subhan Khan drowned on Wednesday 18th May during a short three-day trip, according to a relative who lives in Pakistan.

The Foreign Office has confirmed they are supporting the family of a British man who died in the Aegean coastal resort of Altinkum on 18th May.

Tributes have started to pour in on social media for the 19-year-old student who has been described by friends as “such a nice lad”.

The victim’s cousin, Raja Umair, spoke to the Birmingham Mail about the family’s loss from his home in Pakistan.

He said Subhan had previously lived in Stoke-on-Trent and now lived with his parents in Solihull.

The business and commerce student, who met his cousin during a visit he had made to Pakistan just five months ago, said his family had been left heartbroken by his death.

Raja, who is also 19, said: “Subhan’s family are obviously very upset about what has happened.

“He was very young and was only on holiday for three days.

“I have been told that he fell into the sea on May 18 and his body was recovered later that same day. He was on holiday with a cousin and some friends.

“There is a police investigation and his father has travelled out to Turkey.”

Megs Hegdekar posted a moving tribute to Facebook that said: “For you Subhan Khan, RIP can’t believe it still feel sick to my stomach re-reading our old conversations, know we weren’t close anymore but I cannot begin to explain how sorry I am we hadn’t spoken in so long I could not feel more guilty.

“Can’t believe how fragile this life is, if you value someone tell them, if you love someone show them, life is way too unpredictable and this definitely isn’t fair, please know there’s so much love and thoughts of you going round.

“And to your family and those who were so much closer to you than I ever was, I am so sorry this has happened, RIP.”

Kamilah Ashanti added: “RIP Subs, he was such a nice lad.”
