Elderly woman dies following ‘severe fire’

An elderly woman has sadly died after what was described as a ‘severe fire’ at a house in Chelmsley Wood.

Firefighters based at Sheldon were sent to the scene in Conway Road.

The station tweeted: “White Watch, Sheldon Fire, have attended severe house fire this morning resulting in a fatality.

“Our thoughts go out to the family and friends at this difficult time.”

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “Police were called by the fire service to a house fire in Conway Road, Chelmsley Wood just before 2.30am this morning (Wednesday 21 March).

“The elderly female resident at the property was sadly found deceased.

“The fire is not currently being treated as suspicious.”

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service has confirmed paramedics were called to the house fire on Conway Road.

Their statement read: “West Midlands Ambulance Service can confirm that it was called by the fire service to a house fire on Conway Road in Chelmsley Wood at around 2.15am this morning (Wednesday).

“One ambulance and a paramedic officer attended. Sadly, it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save a woman and she was confirmed dead on scene.”
