Man arrested in Solihull on suspicion of terrorism offences

A man has been arrested today (Wednesday 11 December) on suspicion of terrorism offences.

The 49-year-old man was arrested from an address in Solihull on suspicion of funding/supporting terrorism.

The arrest was carried out by West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit detectives and the man is being questioned at a police station in the West Midlands.

A WMP spokesperson said: “The arrest was pre-planned and intelligence-led; there was no risk to the public.

“As part of the investigation, officers are also carrying out a search of an address.

“The arrest is not linked in any way to the London Bridge terror attack and enquiries into this matter were underway prior to the incident on 29 November.

“Every year thousands of reports from the public help police tackle the terrorist threat. If you see or hear something that doesn’t seem right, trust your instincts and ACT by reporting to police in confidence at gov.uk/ACT.

“Reporting won’t ruin lives, but it could save them. Action Counters Terrorism.
