Demolition of former Powergen site to begin in next few weeks

Shirley Advance, the developer responsible for the recent Parkgate development in Shirley, has confirmed that work on the former Powergen site on Stratford Road/Haslucks Green Road will start in the next few weeks.

The majority of the site will be transformed into an ExtraCare retirement village, as well as new homes.

Robert Birch of Shirley Advance, said, “A number of technical and legal issues have caused delays, but I’m pleased to say that we’re now gearing up to start the demolition and other enabling works over the next few weeks.

* The demolition and highways work should be complete by August/September 2017

* The first phase of new homes should be available in September/October 2017

* The ExtraCare Village should be completed in 2020

“Shirley Advance has been working with Solihull Council and ASDA to bring forward this long awaited development, which will have an end value in excess of £75 million and will provide a further boost to Shirley.”

All of the existing buildings on the ten-acre site will be demolished, including the old Powergen tower and the redundant multi-storey car park.

The site masterplan includes:

* An ExtraCare ‘Village’ for the over 55s with a total of 261 apartments. 60% will be offered on an ‘affordable’ basis

* A total of 113 new homes to be built by five star quality house builder Lioncourt Homes with a mix of 2 bed apartments and 2, 3 and 4 bed houses

* A 5 pump ASDA Petrol Filling Station with Convenience Kiosk

* Associated Car Parking and Highway Works

Shirley Advance is a joint venture between Helical Retail and Coltham Developments.
