Fillongley Road Bridge improvement works

Solihull Council will be carrying out improvement works on the Fillongley Road Bridge which spans the A45 near Meriden.

The works are expected to start in January 2018 and are due to be completed by the end of March 2019.

Solihull Council will be holding two engagement sessions at Meriden Library, for people to find out more and ask any questions they may have.

These will be held on:

• Thursday 9th November 2pm – 7pm
• Saturday 11th November 10am – 1pm

The bridge, built in 1958, has had nearly 60 years of constant, heavy use and following a structural assessment, it now needs replacing in order to last for a further 60 years.

Councillor Ted Richards OBE, Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways, said: “The Bridge has played a significant part in serving the local community, however, it is in need of a new life in order to keep it safe for future commuters.

“We understand the works may have an impact on motorists due to increased traffic, but we will aim to keep disruption to a minimum.

“I urge anyone who has any questions or concerns to pop along to the engagement sessions at Meriden Library, where experts will be happy to help.”

Balfour Beatty has been appointed as the main contractor to carry out the works on behalf of the Council.

For those who are unable to attend the sessions, queries can be sent to: fillongleybridge@solihull.gov.uk
