GP surgery in Solihull rated ‘outstanding’ by Care Quality Commission inspectors

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has rated the quality of care provided by Northbrook Group Practice in Solihull as ‘outstanding’ following an inspection.

It is the first GP surgery in the West Midlands to achieve this status.

The practice in Northbrook Road, Shirley, provides primary medical care services to approximately 10,700 patients.

Inspectors found that the practice is providing safe, caring and effective care – meeting the needs of the population it serves.

The CQC has published its full inspection report on its website www.cqc.org.uk. It highlights several areas of outstanding practice, including services for people with long term conditions and those experiencing poor mental health.

Senior partner Dr Shereen Zaki, who is passionate about improving services for patients, said: “We acknowledge the challenges faced by all GP practices, especially around access.

“We are trying our best to explore innovative ways to deliver accessible health care to our local community.”

Dr Raj Thandi, CQC Registered Manager and GP Partner, said: “We work closely with our patient participation group to address patient concerns. This rating is a reward for the hard work and commitment that the entire team, led by our practice manager Emma Frost, show every day to our patients.

“The team of inspectors thoroughly assessed every aspect of our clinical and administrative service provision.

“The new diabetic clinic, led by Sister Helen Smith, drew particular high praise for outstanding care resulting in the best ever diabetic control results at the practice.”

Dr Anand Chitnis, Chair and Clinical Lead of Solihull Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “I am delighted to see that Northbrook Group Practice has received this well-deserved ‘outstanding’ rating from the CQC.

“It is always good to see that patients have said they were treated with compassion, dignity and respect and that they were involved in decisions about their treatment and care.

“This all makes a real difference to patients.”
