Love Langley Hall Park Project gets funding boost from Tesco shoppers

Langley Hall Park Local Nature Reserve (LNR), run by Solihull Council, is set to see a number of improvements in the upcoming months, thanks to a public vote at local Tesco stores resulting in a £2,000 grant.

Tesco runs a funding scheme which sees monthly grants of up to £5,000, raised from the 5p bag levy, being awarded to local environmental community projects.

Solihull Council’s Assistant Ecologist, Adam Noon, who submitted the bid for funding on behalf of the park, said: “We are delighted with this result, which along with some additional funding, will enable us to undertake a number of enhancements to Langley Hall Park.

“Many thanks to everyone who took the time to vote at their local store.”

Some of the funding will be used to make changes to the main entrance off Swanswell Road. By improving accessibility and making the park more welcoming, it is hoped the public will use and appreciate this valuable area of green space more.

Plans to make the park, which also recently gained local nature reserve status, a more hedgehog-friendly habitat, are also on the cards. Adam has been working with the hedgehog team at Warwickshire Wildlife Trust to see what can be done to improve the habitat for one UK’s most loved, but sadly now endangered, species.

Adam explained that he and his council colleagues are aiming to include local schools in their plans and work in the park, building up a network of local young people who will take an interest and a pride in their local nature reserve.

He said: “Community engagement is all important to making the work we do in the park sustainable. The funding we have from Tesco is also time sensitive and has to be used within the next year, this means people will see results in the very near future.”
