Mell Square sponsors charity bear for Cheswick Green School

Solihull-based shopping centre Mell Square welcomed Cheswick Green School, as part of its community sponsorship of Birmingham’s Big Sleuth school trail.

Mell Square has sponsored ‘Chesney’ the bear cub, which has been created by Cheswick Green School.

Taking inspiration from the school’s logo, the bear has been decorated with the leaves designed by both pupils and staff from the school – it is currently being displayed at The Core in Solihull and will be returned to the school, as a permanent fixture, once the education trail has concluded.

The class of 32 children visited Mell Square’s very own Big Sleuth bear, Flower Bear, as part of a wider school trip to Solihull’s town centre, which included The Core Theatre, to see Chesney.

Carol Mason, headteacher at Cheswick Green School, said: “The children had a great day out and enjoyed seeing Chesney’s temporary home.

“The school worked so hard designing and creating the bear cub, and we would like to thank Mell Square and IM properties for their sponsorship and support as part of The Big Sleuth initiative.”

Rob Hemus, IM Properties asset manager, said: “The Big Sleuth is a such a fantastic event, but the addition of the school sponsor adds even greater value.

“The children at Cheswick Green School have done an unbelievable job, and we are so proud that Mell Square had the opportunity to be its community sponsor.”
