New care home opens in Chelmsley Wood
A brand new residential and nursing home in Chelmsley Wood was officially opened by the Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Stuart Davis on Wednesday 8th November.
‘Chelmund’s Court’ located in Chelmund’s Cross Village Centre, is a purpose-built 73-bed home for older people with dementia, run by Runwood Homes Group alongside Solihull Council.
Solihull Council has commissioned 63 of the beds for the next ten years, which they say “will ensure that local people will have better access to high quality, affordable care in the future”.
The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Stuart Davis said: “It was a privilege to open this new care home and it was great to see so many people at the opening.
“The home is a fantastic new facility for the north of the borough and will help some of the most vulnerable in our society – older people suffering with dementia.”
Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health, Councillor Karen Grinsell who attended the opening said: “Chelmund’s Court is a wonderful addition to the borough creating 73 new beds for older people suffering with dementia.
“As the population of older people in the borough grows, so too does the demand for high quality care and support services.
“The new home is in response to the consistent challenge this causes the Council when trying to find affordable care within the borough.
“It will enable people suffering with dementia to remain part of the borough where they have lived and worked and most importantly, be close to their loved ones.
“We welcome such an exemplar scheme to the borough and look forward to working with Runwood Homes in the years to come.”
Gordon Sanders, Chief Executive of Runwood Homes said: “Now that the new home is operational we will be working with our partner, Solihull Council, to ensure that local needs can be met.
“The home concludes the village regeneration scheme bringing additional social care and nursing employment to the borough along with volunteering opportunities.
“Some really effective community links have already been made with voluntary organisations and NHS bodies.”
The new care home marks the final phase of the Chelmund’s Cross Village Centre re-development by the North Solihull Partnership, which has seen over £22m of investment. Part funded by the European Regional Development Fund, it includes the £10m Bishop Wilson School, a new Enterprise Centre providing office space for small and new start-up businesses, as well as a new medical centre, dental practice, pharmacy and retail units.
