Police continue to appeal for information as fatal hit and run victim named

A man who died following a hit and run in Solihull earlier this week has been named as Steven Day.

Detectives have launched a murder investigation after Mr Day is believed to have been deliberately struck by a VW Golf in Warwick Road, Olton.

The 46-year-old – who was walking on the pavement at the time – was confirmed dead at the scene of the collision just before 5pm on Monday (16 July).

In a statement his family said: “Our lives have suddenly changed with the sad news that Steven has been tragically killed.

“Steven was a son, brother and uncle and he was loved.

“Steven’s lifestyle at times made our relationship chaotic but we never stopped loving him and our door was always open to him. We would ask to be left to grieve in peace.”

Officers are continuing to appeal for witnesses and information into the collision which happened between Old Warwick Road and Richmond Road.

Detective Inspector Paul Joyce, for the force’s homicide team, said: “We are working hard to establish the circumstances behind this and help provide answers for Steven’s family.

“We believe a dark coloured VW Golf was involved and damaged as a result and I would urge anyone who has seen a car which may fit this description to contact us.

“We are still keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen anything which can assist our enquiries.”

Anyone with information is urged to call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
