Police warning after two men allegedly try to get teen into Ford Fiesta

An angry dad has issued a warning after his teenage son was allegedly approached by two men who urged him to get into their car in Solihull.

The father, a former kickboxer, appealed to locals to look out for the pair who drove alongside his 14-year-old boy at around 6.10pm on Sunday night (17th December) on Valley Road in Elmdon, and asked him if he ‘wanted a lift’.

When the teenager, also a kickboxer, refused, the men became persistent and tried to persuade the school pupil who was on his way home from the gym, to accept the ride.

“I don’t know what might have happened. Luckily I was looking out for my son as it was getting late and I knew he’d be nearly home’, said the dad.

“I was in my porch with the door open watching for him and I saw the car pull up alongside him and clearly heard the driver ask him if he wanted a lift.

“My son said no and the driver then got more aggressive and said ‘come on kid’.

“I did get aggressive and shouted ‘what the hell do you want’?”

The car, believed to be a small dark coloured Fiesta, then drove a few feet away and stopped.

The driver, alleged to be a black man aged between 30-35 years old then shouted at the boy before speeding off.

The second passenger in the rear has been described as white and aged in his twenties.

“My son can look after himself. He goes to the gym and is a kickboxer. But I want to warn parents that these men are in the area.

“The police said I did the right thing by reporting it but they said they hadn’t had reports of any similar incidents.

“I’ll be taking him to the gym now and picking him up,” he added.

“My lad was bullied at school so that’s why I got him to take up kick-boxing.”

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “Police were called after a 14-year-old boy was approached by the driver of a car and asked if he needed a lift, at around 8.30pm on Sunday, 17 December.

“A witness shouted at the driver of the car, on Valley Road, Solihull and the vehicle was then driven away.”

Call police on 101, quoting log 2136 of December 17.
