Pupils commended at Solihull Borough Education Awards

On Tuesday 18th October 2016, the Solihull Borough Education Awards were held in conjunction with this year’s Civic Honours ceremony – six hard-working pupils from Solihull’s schools were presented with awards sponsored by the JLR Group.

The Solihull Borough Education Awards are an initiative, sponsored by Jaguar Land Rover, whereby GCSE students are rewarded for showing outstanding dedication in their studies.

The quality of students was of such a high standard that there were joint winners for two of the awards.

The winners were handpicked from a long list of nominations by a selection panel of councillors, colleagues from Jaguar Land Rover, a head teacher representative and Council officers.

Winners, who were presented with certificates and individual prizes, are:

Gurvir Matharu – Outstanding Maths student: Alderbrook School
Emma Priestley – Outstanding Maths student: Tudor Grange Academy
Cerys Baker – Most Improved Maths student: Alderbrook School
Chloe Sutton – Outstanding English student: Grace Academy
Jack Carleton – Most Improved English student: Triple Crown

Councillor Ken Meeson, Cabinet Member for Children, Education and Skills, said: “This year’s selection of the Borough’s JLR Education Award winners proved as difficult as ever.

“The judging panel were hugely impressed with the number of outstanding nominations and the winners can take great pride in being chosen from such a strong field.

“I want to thank all the Secondary Schools in Solihull for continuing to support the Education Awards so enthusiastically.”
