Solihull couple raise funds for new people carrier at Park View Day Centre

People with learning disabilities who attend Park View Day Centre can experience new opportunities thanks to the fundraising efforts of a local couple who raised £35,000 for a new people carrier.

Realising that using public transport isn’t always an option for people who attend Park View in Solihull, residents David and Margaret Bradnock have been tirelessly fundraising since early 2015.

The wheelchair accessible vehicle allows people to get out and enjoy all that the local area has to offer.

David Bradnock explained: “Most people who attend Park View will attend for their entire adult lives.

“We wanted these lovely people to have the chance to experience the things that we take for granted: going to the cinema, to the library, bowling or for a pub lunch for example.

“Since Park View isn’t on a bus route, we felt people were missing out, so my wife and I set ourselves the challenge to get Park View their own vehicle that they could have sole use of.

“Reaching our target of £35,000 was a big challenge, but thanks to the generosity of residents, organisations and companies we achieved it.

“Margaret and I are thrilled to give this people carrier to Park View.”

The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Mike Robinson, presented the new vehicle to Park View on Tuesday 22nd November and said: “Margaret and David have done a fantastic job raising money for this vehicle.

“It is great to see Solihull residents giving up their time to improve the lives of other people in the borough and I am delighted to celebrate their fundraising achievements today.”

Councillor Karen Grinsell, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care & Health, added: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to David and Margaret for their hard work fundraising and to those who have donated.

“Everyone at Park View Day Service is very excited about the new vehicle and I’m sure there will be many a happy memory made during the outings that they will now be able to take.”
