Solihull Mayor meets Queen’s Birthday Honours recipients

On Monday 18th and Thursday 21st September, the Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Stuart Davis met with recipients of the Queen’s Birthday Honours.

In recognition of their achievements the nine recipients were invited to meet the Mayor and Mayoress to enjoy an afternoon tea in the Mayor’s Parlour of Solihull Council’s Civic Suite.

* Paul Kehoe, former Chief Executive of Birmingham Airport, received a CBE for his services to the Aviation Industry and UK Economy.

* Janet Down, Chief Executive of SoLO Life Opportunities, was awarded an MBE for her services to young people with learning disabilities in the Solihull Borough.

* Darrilyn Downes, a former teacher of Forest Oak School in Smith’s Wood, received an MBE for services to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

* Meryl Homer, Manager of St Aphege Pre School, was awarded an MBE for services to Early Years Education stemming from her volunteer work at Church Hill Road pre-school.

* Graham Scutt, a volunteer at Camp Hill Rugby Club, received a BEM for services to rugby. In April he was one of nineteen volunteers across the country who were recognised for their commitment to
community sport by the Torch Trophy Trust.

* Amanda Mordey, the Principal of Forest Oak School in Smith’s Wood, was awarded an OBE for services to Special Educational Needs in Solihull.

* Andrew Moffat, a primary school teacher at Parkfield Community School in Saltley, was awarded an MBE for his services to Equality and Diversity in Education. His development of ‘No Outsiders In Our School’ a teaching resource about the Equality Act 2010, provides support for other primary school teachers in the delivery of objectives outlined in the act.

* Beryl Moppett received an MBE for services to the community in Solihull. A long standing trustee of Solihull Churches Action on Homelessness (SCAH) she has consistently supported those establishing a home after a period of homelessness alongside campaigning for greener living.

* Ellen Delaney was awarded a BEM for services to the community in Fordbridge, Solihull. She has worked with Parent and Communities Together (PACT) to provide support to local families and has fundraised in excess of £100,000 to fund local projects.

After the events the Mayor said, “It was a pleasure to meet such inspirational people from across the borough who have given so much to their communities.

“After spending an afternoon in their company it is clear why they have received such high accolades.”
