Solihull’s deputy Mayor presents life-saving defibrillator as a gift to SMBC

Traditionally, the outgoing Mayor presents a gift to Solihull Council. After meeting people who volunteer as local Community First Responders for Fastaid Solihull during her time as Mayor, Councillor Glenis Slater decided on her gift.

She said: “I was very impressed by the work of the volunteers that I met.

“So when I was trying to choose my gift I decided that I would buy something that will benefit the community.

“Although, obviously, we hope that there is never cause to use the defibrillator; if an emergency does happen, the Council now has a life-saving piece of equipment that could help someone in cardiac arrest whilst an ambulance is on its way.”

The defibrillator will be kept at the public reception of the Civic Suite in Solihull town centre and staff have had training on how it should be used.

The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Mike Robinson, added: “I am delighted to receive this defibrillator on behalf of the Council and to support this life-changing initiative.”
