Teenager charged over series of car-jackings on lone female drivers

A teenager has been charged over a series of car-jackings in which lone female drivers were dragged from their vehicles.

The male youth was arrested on Thursday (05/10) following a robbery in Broome Lane, Dickens Heath, where a woman was threatened with a baseball bat before her VW Golf was stolen.

The 17-year-old, from Stechford, has been charged with that offence plus five others in Solihull between 17th August and 12th September.

It’s alleged he was part of a group that robbed a Seat Ibiza from a woman outside One Stop in Marston Green on 17th August and forcibly took another Ibiza the following day from Aldi in Acocks Green.

And he’s also accused of two car robberies on 11th September – an Audi TT in Three Acres Lane, Dickens Heath, and a Golf GTi in Shirley’s Withybrook Road – plus another in Broome Lane the next day when a woman was attacked in her Type R Golf.

The teenager is set to appear today (7th October) at Birmingham Magistrates Court.

West Midlands Police Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Burton, said: “We’re looking at a series of robberies in which it appears lone woman drivers have been deliberately targeted; these were no doubt very shocking incidents for the victims involved.

“Since the robberies, patrols have been stepped up in the Shirley and Knowle areas.”

Anyone with information about the robberies is urged to call the High Harm Team at Solihull police station on the 101 number – or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
